About the Project

"thank you teacher" is a space dedicated to the "thank you" that matter, a place where current and former students from around the world can publicly celebrate the teachers and educators who changed their lives.

Why This Project Exists

School is where it all begins: our first discoveries, our first friendships, our first ambitions. It is where we learn to understand the world, and to understand ourselves.

But none of this would be possible without our teachers. Those who explain, who guide, who encourage, and who believe in us long before we believe in ourselves.

Yet, every school year turns a page. Students move on, memories fade, and teachers almost never know how much they mattered.

This project was born from this realization, from the simple desire to say thank you. But not a fleeting thank you, lost in social media feeds; we wanted to create a collection of authentic messages that teachers can come and read when they need a reminder of the meaning of their profession.

What We Believe

We believe that gratitude is contagious. When you read a letter, you remember your own teachers—those who stayed late, who believed in you when you didn't believe in yourself, who brought a subject to life in a way no textbook could match.

We believe that teaching is more than a profession, it is an act of passion. Every teacher who enters a classroom chooses to invest in people they may never see again, trusting that their work will have ripples they will never see.

And we believe that saying "thank you" is important. Not just for the teacher receiving the words, but for the student writing them. There is power in naming the good someone has done for you.

How Letters Are Shared

Every letter received is carefully read by a real person. It is not an open forum where everything is published automatically. We take the time to review each submission to preserve a kind and respectful space.

Anyone can submit a letter by email. We look above all for authenticity and sincerity. No need for a sophisticated literary style or impeccable grammar. What matters is that your gratitude is sincere.

Letters that reflect our values of gratitude and respect are published on our Letters page. You choose how to identify yourself: full name, initials, or total anonymity. The essential thing is that your message comes from the heart and sincerely honors the teacher you wish to thank.

Be Part of Something Bigger

Whether you read these letters or write one yourself, you are part of a growing movement of gratitude. Every letter added to this collection testifies to the power of teaching and the lasting influence of a single caring adult.

If you have never thanked a teacher, now is the time. If you have done it, do it again. The world needs more appreciation, not less.

To the Educators Reading This

If you are a teacher and visiting this site, thank you. Thank you for the early mornings, the late corrections, the lessons you re-taught five different ways until every student understood. Thank you for the moments you will never know about—the student who chose to stay in school because of something you said, the child who pursued a dream because you saw their potential first.

This collection is for you. On hard days, when you feel like your work goes unnoticed, come back here. These letters are proof: you matter more than you think.
